It’s a holiday season and we take the opportunity to share some tips with all of you who are planning a trip. These tips generally apply to all travels, at all seasons, to any destination, so you can come back to read them through before your future travels as well.

  • Whichever means of transport you’re using, make sure you’re wearing adequate clothes. Try to avoid high heels and tight shoes. It’s always best to wear something casual, comfortable and, if possible, layered.
  • You may want to take some snacks with you because you never know how long the journey will take. Most airlines are trying to cut the expenses by offering symbolic meals, and sometimes not even that. However, keep in mind that only certain quantity of fluids is allowed onboard.
  • Download movies or other adequate content on your tablet or mobile phone.
  • Don’t forget to charge your electronic devices before boarding. Keep the chargers close, just in case.
  • It’s always a good idea to listen to podcasts. You can thus save your batteries, and they can be very useful, often more distracting than music. You can get through an entire flight on podcasts alone.
  • In case you have to spend hours onboard, why not bring a notepad and use all that time to do something creative? They say that any change of environment, especially the travels, is often very inspiring.
  • If you are travelling to a country which uses a different currency, you might want to get at least some local money beforehand. This will spare you the trouble of looking for a currency exchange office and the best rates as soon as you land.
  • Learn a few phrases or words in the local language.
  • Download the Google map of the city or the region you are visiting. If you have never done this before, just follow the instructions below:
  1. Launch the Google Maps app on your phone. Make sure you’re signed into your Google account.
  2. Search for the city you’d like to download.
  3. Tap the bar at the bottom of the screen with the name of the place you’ve just searched for.
  4. Tap the button that says “Download.”
  5. Google will then show you a map of the area and ask if you’d like to download it. Tap “Download” again to confirm.
  6. These maps are very useful. However, if you still find them challenging, you can always buy a tour guide or map in the paper form.
